Celtic Knots of East Anglia Earrings
$30.00
HANDMADE REPRODUCTION
Anglo Saxon 'sceattas' are small silver coins from Dark Age Britain. This one is of a stylized Celtic knot in the form of an interlace cross. They bear 12 pellets in groups of three surrounding the interlace cross, which may have intentionally represented the disciples of Christ. These coins are extremely rare and were the first coins minted in East Anglia. They were struck under king Beonna (AD 749-760) and the runes read 'BEONNA' around a central pellet.
Very little is known about these mysterious little coins. Christian imagery on many suggest that some may have been minted by bishops or abbots.
